Gatlinburg just keeps getting better and better! Recently, 2 new restaurants have opened and, so far, they’re a hit! Last month, the Mayor of Gatlinburg officially cut the ribbon at Mama’s Chicken Kitchen and J.O.E. and Pop’s Sub Shoppe. Here’s the details of each restaurant and what you can expect when you visit:
1. Mama’s Chicken Kitchen
Mama’s Chicken Kitchen is an extension of the Mama’s Farmhouse Restaurant that you can find in Pigeon Forge. They are quite a bit different though! Mama’s Chicken Kitchen specializes only in fried chicken! The fried chicken you love from Mama’s Farmhouse is served up as individual meals, buckets and more at Mama’s Chicken Kitchen. They also offer salads, chicken wings and a variety of southern-style sides like mac and cheese, chicken and dumplins, creamed corn and more.
Meals at Mama’s Chicken Kitchen come with a buttermilk biscuit served with homemade jam and your choice of side dishes. Popular sides include macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn, green beans, and veggie soup.
While Mama’s Farmhouse in Pigeon Forge is exclusively a sit-down restaurant, Mama’s Chicken Kitchen lets you dine in or take out. They recommend grabbing a bucket of chicken and heading into the national park for a picnic. The entrance to the national park is just a few short minutes away from the restaurant, so we think that’s a great way to spend an afternoon enjoying the mountains!

2. J.O.E. and Pop’s Sub Shoppe
J.O.E and Pop’s Sub Shoppe prides themselves on fresh, simple ingredients for delicious sandwiches. They serve up a variety of sandwiches and speciality subs where you can choose your favorite cheese and toppings – all fresh!
Guests at J.O.E. and Pop’s will enjoy a variety of spectacular sandwiches that can be ordered cold, toasted, or steamed. The Sub Shoppe serves deli classics like Reuben sandwiches and tuna salad subs, along with Philly Cheesesteaks, Hebrew National hot dogs, and hamburgers. All of the subs can be ordered in the regular “J.O.E.” size or the large “Pop” size.
This would also be a great place to stop for some family meals before heading into the national park for a picnic! Sandwiches are easy to carry and everyone could get exactly what they want!

Coming Restaurants
The Return of Alamo Steakhouse
In addition to the opening of these two new restaurants in Gatlinburg, the Johnson Family had more good news to share with the media. The company recently announced that the Alamo Steakhouse in Gatlinburg is expected to reopen at the beginning of October 2017. The new building will be constructed at Alamo’s old location at 705 East Parkway. If you can’t wait until the fall, you can always head over to the second Alamo Steakhouse in Pigeon Forge.
LandShark Bar and Grill
LandShark Bar and Grill promises to bring a little island life to Gatlinburg with their casual “5 o’clock somewhere” atmosphere. They serve up tropical, seafood dishes as well as American favorites like burgers, sandwiches and more.
Across the street from the LandShark Bar and Grill will be the new Margaritaville Resort in the Smokies. It’s currently under construction, but is set to open mid-2018.
